The candelaria

La Candelaria is the city's 17th city, it is the smallest in Bogota, with an area of ​​183.89 hectares, according to data from the Department of District Planning. It is located in the center-east sector of Bogota, its area is destined for the construction of equipment of urban and metropolitan level, and it does not have zones of rural type.

The locality is conformed by the districts Belén, the waters, Santa Barbara, La Concord, Egypt, Administrative Center and Cathedral. Its population is 23,615 permanent inhabitants.

The candelaria is recognized by the architectural legacy of its streets, has been and continues to be the epicenter of events and witness of Colombian political history. Just as it became the scene of Independence Day on July 20, 1810 and April 9, 1948, today La Candelaria seems to draw in each of its streets, the history of the city and the Bogota and the country in each One of its constructions and passages.


According to the District Cultural Heritage Institute, in the historic center there are a total of 2,364 properties, of which 54 are declared as Cultural Interest of the National Order (former National Monuments) and 1,608 are architectural conservation grounds. It gathers the neighborhoods of La Candelaria, Administrative Center and La Concord and part of the districts Belen, Egypt, Guavio, the waters  and Santa Barbara. It has 123 apple  and occupies an area of ​​137 hectares.

I will speak about of Feria Internacional del Libro de Bogota , Is event where some writers

of famous books from all over the world , this event is  made annually in the center of Corferias

in the city of Bogota , the event is open to the general public , the first fair of Libro de Bogota was

inagurate by Jorge Eliece Gaitan in 10 october of 1938 , the street of fair is  Cra. 37#24-67,Bogota ,if

you like talk with they the number is 3230111, in the event you can buy books and other things , the

fair open monday to thursday and sunday of 10 o'clock  and to 8 o'clock , if you like enter the fair you

must buy the ticket taht the cost is 8.000 for adult,6.000 for students with card and 4.500 for

childrens , thefamous people go to the events as writers,youtubers,artist,actors and the other

people that is famous.

This year the event is at April 25 until May 5 and this year the visit writers are Alian Serres,

Alba Lucia Angel , Alverio Echabarra and yesterday  the creators confirmed that Carlos Vives , Fito

Paez and Piero they're invted to the fair , the ticket you cannot buy for the internet

The Ibero-American Theater Festival of Bogotá
Bogotá performs every two years the most important theater festival in Latin America and one of the best in the world.
The city offers theater, dance and music performances in more than 45 rooms, among which the Teatro Mayor, the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theater, the National Theater and a variety of independent spaces such as Theater Map, Casa del Teatro, La Candelaria, Free Theater and Varasanta Theater.
The city every year makes international productions like the Circus of the Sun and receives in its scenes the best companies of the world that make seasons in Bogota. We have to go!!

Culture in Bogota

Bogota is known as one the most creatives cities. Based in different styles as dance, history, music, theater, plastic arts, literature, etc. Bogota has different kind of people which has transform to Bogota in a city with values in specific communities as LGBT, fighting for their rights at the society. Even respecting the differences between religions, Bogota can be called a multicultural city.

According to UNESCO, Bogota is the first city in South America who has been including a “Red de cuidades creativas de la musica” with other important cites as Seville (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland) and Ghent (Belgium). The city has 600 or more places to make any kind of concerts or events, a big part of these places are outdoors. Also you can find here the best theater shows in South America, even the city offers shows of dance, music and theater in 45 rooms, the most representatives are “ Teatro Mayor, Teatro Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, Teatro nacional”  and other independent theaters as Mapa Teatro, la casa del Teatro, la Candelaria, Teatro Libre and Teatro Varasanta.

If we talk about arts, Bogota count with one of the most important festivals in South America: “Feria Internacional de Arte” with more than 24 thousands assistants, 66 lofts of 30 cities around the world and 2.000 works of 450 artists. It takes place every year in the early days of October. Also 70 lofts and cultural centers offer presentations on topics as painting, photography, video, arte performance and other kind of expressions of digital media.
About literature, Bogota has big libraries and the Book fest, one of the most important in Latin America. The city offer innovation in poesy, magazines, tools for books and comics even in a digital format. Count on four big libraries, six local libraries, ten neighborhood libraries, 60 communities’ libraries and one bibliobus.

In the other hand, Bogota has a large diversity of museums, to be more specific you can find 77, with different topics as precolombina (Gold Museum) military history (Military Museum) and new era as maloka with technologic and scientific experiments and demonstrations.

Bogota’s infrastructure count with 600 buildings and zones where you can see the evolution of the city in architecture and history since his foundation on 1538. Particularly, the Candelaria is one of the most representative’s neighborhoods of the city, because it conserved the colonial architecture and you can see it in the houses and squares around this neighborhood.
