The candelaria

La Candelaria is the city's 17th city, it is the smallest in Bogota, with an area of ​​183.89 hectares, according to data from the Department of District Planning. It is located in the center-east sector of Bogota, its area is destined for the construction of equipment of urban and metropolitan level, and it does not have zones of rural type.

The locality is conformed by the districts Belén, the waters, Santa Barbara, La Concord, Egypt, Administrative Center and Cathedral. Its population is 23,615 permanent inhabitants.

The candelaria is recognized by the architectural legacy of its streets, has been and continues to be the epicenter of events and witness of Colombian political history. Just as it became the scene of Independence Day on July 20, 1810 and April 9, 1948, today La Candelaria seems to draw in each of its streets, the history of the city and the Bogota and the country in each One of its constructions and passages.


According to the District Cultural Heritage Institute, in the historic center there are a total of 2,364 properties, of which 54 are declared as Cultural Interest of the National Order (former National Monuments) and 1,608 are architectural conservation grounds. It gathers the neighborhoods of La Candelaria, Administrative Center and La Concord and part of the districts Belen, Egypt, Guavio, the waters  and Santa Barbara. It has 123 apple  and occupies an area of ​​137 hectares.
